Who We Are:
For 30 years Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence has provided healing, hope and opportunity to
women and children impacted by domestic violence.
The Emergency Shelter & Resource Center offers safe haven to over 400
survivors of domestic violence each year. SPAN also operates a
24-hour crisis hotline, offer counseling, outreach and transitional services, legal advocacy and education
services for violence prevention and anti-bullying.

Originally named Boulder County Safehouse, Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) is a
human rights organization committed to ending violence against women, youth and children through support,
advocacy, education and community organizing.
Founded in 1979, SPAN offers culturally relevant services for survivors of interpersonal violence,
including an Emergency Shelter & Resource Center, 24-hour crisis/information line, counseling services,
legal/court advocacy, transitional housing, and school-based and community education programs.
Since opening its doors SPAN has sheltered more than 8,065 women and children, responded to 146,055
crisis calls, counseled 18,357 individuals on an outreach basis, and performed more than 8,650 educational
presentations on interpersonal violence for groups throughout Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
SPAN also works to promote nonviolence and social justice through violence prevention education,
community training and technical assistance programs.
